Keys to Motivation for Adult Learners

Set clear, reachable goals

Write down clear, worthwhile objectives that are reasonable for you to achieve within a specific time frame. Check into those goals regularly, and reward yourself when you hit your targets. Celebrating your progress is key to maintaining momentum.

Start small

If it’s a project, brainstorm first steps. If it’s a paper, do some relevant reading. Before long, you will be too focused to dwell on your lack of motivation. Remember, it’s about doing something rather than nothing!

Remember your why

Recall your overarching reasons for attending school and completing your degree. Reminding yourself of the long-term value of achieving your broader goals can help you finish those smaller projects and tasks.

Get support

Connect with people (like a ReUp Success Coach!) who can give you a pep talk, cheer you on, and keep you accountable. Having someone in your corner to encourage you and help you celebrate your accomplishments is a great motivator.
