Recent events across the country, including the senseless murders of Black Americans like Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery, demonstrate how far we have to go as a country to embrace diversity and end racial inequality. Systemic racism remains endemic to American society, and we stand alongside our Black colleagues, partners, and students in calling for, and working towards, a more just and equitable future.
ReUp was founded to address the college completion crisis in this country, which has disproportionately impacted students of color and their families. And if education is truly the great equalizer, we must continue our efforts in closing the equity gap by re-engaging students who want to return to school to pursue their educational goal of degree completion.
As a diverse team, we have benefited from rich, and often uncomfortable, conversations as we’ve explored our unconscious biases in order to better serve the students and partners we work with every day. We commit to continue that work, to take a closer look at our own processes and actions, in order to help each other, our students, and our partners.
We are inspired by the stories of heroism and kindness that have shed light during a dark time. With equity, diversity and inclusion as a core organization value, we stand in solidarity with all those working toward a more just society and will use our platform to advance that mission.
